Tusca Landing

Tusca Landing is currently our farthest upper river platform and offers some unique exploration opportunities. It features an open camping platform as well as a covered, screened platform and has an in-ground toilet (no bucket needed) nearby. The campsite is tucked into a picturesque bend in the river surrounded by trees, but next to an open field. Each platform is 14 ft x 16 ft.

Tillery

The first land-based campsite on the Roanoke for RRP, this unique location offers a roofed and screened camping deck, an open deck, and a separate privy...all with a spectacular view of the Roanoke from high atop a bluff. Both the screen-enclosed and the open platforms measure 12 ft x 16 ft. Steps lead from the river to the top of the bluff. Position more tents around the two camping structures and create a good camp site for larger groups.

The Bluff

About 7 miles from the town of Hamilton, near the northern end of Martin County, The Bluff platform is nestled high on a wooded bluff on the south side of the Roanoke River. This platform features a screened platform (15 x 13) with an uncovered deck area (16 x 14) surrounded by a railing which has a wonderful view of the river. Amenities include a picnic table in the screened in porch as well as an enclosed in-ground privy (no bucket needed) nearby.

River Landing

River Landing offers a totally new and different experience in Roanoke River Partners' camping platform facilities. At Williamston, this campsite features a screened and covered building with a private, gated entry off a beautiful river boardwalk. Access to restrooms and showers are only a few feet away. The River Landing Boardwalk has picturesque views of the Roanoke River Wetlands across the river. The Boardwalk, platform, and restroom facilities are fully handicapped accessible.

Conine

A unique offering that is a six-mile paddle from the N.C. Wildlife Access in Williamston, this platform offers a small screened-in section for those who like a little something between themselves and the great outdoors. Look for this platform on the south side of the Roanoke just across from the eastern confluence with Conine Creek.

Barred Owl Roost

Barred Owl Roost is located at the back of Lower Deadwater Creek off Devil's Gut, about 3 miles up from Jamesville. The platform is only a mile up from the NC Wildlife boat ramp and fishing pier near Jamesville. The 20' x 20' platform is large enough to hold six paddling campers and their tents. The cantilevered, wooden deck is supported over rich, brown swamp water by pilings.

Beaver Lodge and Beaver Tail

The 25' x 16' Beaver Lodge platform is named for the local web-footed residents although you're more likely to see a deer bounding through this cypress-tupelo backwater. This camping platform is located at the back of Upper Deadwater Creek off Devil's Gut about 5 miles up from Jamesville and only 2 miles from Barred Owl Roost.

Beaver tail is a 28' x 16' platform located only 80 feet from Beaver Lodge and joined to it by a walkway and a bridge is now available to campers either in combination with Beaver Lodge or on its own. Beaver Tail doubles the capacity of this location, helping us better serve scouting, student, research and other groups. (Groups, see Tillery, too!)

Cow Creek

Looking for your own secret breakfast garden? This could be it! Just off the Roanoke's Broad Creek, not far into Cow Creek on the left, this 28' x 16' platform is tucked behind the bank near drifts of May-flowering blue flag iris.

Three Sisters

Where Broad Creek (off the Roanoke) branches into three small, sister creeks, you'll find the path to this tranquil 28' x 16' camping spot. Follow "the middle sister" and look for the tall, young cypress standing sentinel at the dock.

Cypress Cathedral

Cypress Cathedral is located on Three Sisters off Broad Creek between Jamesville and Plymouth. The site was named Cypress Cathedral because of the majestic cypresses that line the entrance to this peaceful resting place. The 28 x 16-foot camping platform rises above giant cane and lets visitors enjoy another of the Roanoke River Basin habitats.

Bear Run

Bear Run's main camping platform is a spacious 28 x 16-foot area accessed by two large stepping platforms which rise up from a long boardwalk. The "privy" is located along the boardwalk. A large dock welcomes boaters and makes this an option for motorboats (except in severely low water levels) as well as paddle boats.

Royal Fern

Located off what is locally called White Marsh Creek from Conaby Creek east of Plymouth, this 28' x 16' platform is in the heart of bear country!

Lost Boat

Located a few paddle strokes off the winding Cashie River, this 28' x 16' platform is a 12-mile paddle from the historic town of Windsor. Visit the Roanoke-Cashie River Center, then put in at the center's boat ramp or the nearby N.C. Wildlife Access.

Otter One

Located on an upper branch of the Cashie River's Broad Creek, this 28' x 16' platform makes a great second-night campsite after spending a first night at Lost Boat Platform. Or put in at the N.C. Wildlife Access at the historic Sans Souci ferry landing. Listen for the call of the osprey as you enjoy the splendid isolation of this platform.

Holladay Island

Located approximately 20 miles from Historic Edenton and accessible only by boat, the island echoes the call of nature like few other experiences offer. Situated on isolated points of the island, there are two single platforms and three clustered platforms suitable for group camping.

John's Island

The four platforms are strategically located on the northern side of the island along Pembroke Creek. Easily accessible from four different launch points, each is only a ten-minute paddle or short boat ride to your overnight destination. You can choose from a floating dock at Colonial Waterfront Park, a boat ramp at Edenton Marina, a launch platform at Pembroke Creek Park, or a boat ramp at Pembroke Creek Marina.

Cooke's Landing

Located on the northern side of the Roanoke River in Northampton County approximately two miles downstream from the Edwards Ferry NCWR access (Hwy 258), this picturesque site with a raised platform (16 ft x 24 ft) offers a quiet, grassy campsite located on a high bank above the Roanoke River. Pull your boat into the small cove and enter by a few steps from the Roanoke River. After walking up the steps from the river, you will walk 25 paces to a second short set of steps where you will find a swing blade hanging on the post of the railing. If you wish to trim the grassy area around the campsite in between our maintenance visits the blade is available for your use. From the second set up steps you will walk 73 paces away from the river to the camping area with the raised platform, privacy area and picnic table. The raised privacy area (5 ft x 5 ft with a 2 ft wide entrance) has no facilities so bring your own bucket. Use No Trace camping rules. The platform and privacy area are raised to withstand high water during peak flooding. The designated camping area, clearly marked by red boundary paint, is between the high berm and the Roanoke River. There should be NO TRESSPASSING past the berm. There is no vehicle access allowed to this site thus you must enter the campsite by the Roanoke River access.

For your safety: The other parts of this property are leased to hunters during the entire year. There shall be no camping during deer / large game hunting season from the end of September until early January. Only those with camping reservations are allowed at this site from early January through the end of September. (NO TRESPASSING OR CAMPING SHALL BE ALLOWED FROM OCTOBER - DECEMBER). A 5 day notice is required between making your reservation and your camping date to allow for communication between all parties.

This camping platform is located at the back of Upper Deadwater Creek off Devil’s Gut about 5 miles up from Jamesville and only 2 miles from Barred Owl Roost.

Beaver Tail platform is a 28′ x 16′ platform located on the left side which is only 80 feet from Beaver Lodge. The platform is joined to a walkway with a bridge which allows campers to walk from Beaver Tail platform to Beaver Lodge platform. Each platform can be rented separately or simply make a reservation for Beaver Lodge too to double your group camping capacity to better serve scouts, students, and other groups. (Groups, see Tillery, too!) The platform is an open space but includes a picnic table. The walkway to the platform measures 26 inches in width with two steps up to a landing and then another 12″ high step to the platform. There is a wooden enclosure in the corner of the platform that can be used for privacy with a door opening measuring 28 inches wide. There are no facilities; bring your own. Please follow Leave No Trace guidelines. This platform can not be reached by vehicle but only by boat.
