Community Voices

One of the things we love the most about paddling along Conaby Creek is the abundance of large Bald Cypress trees. There are stretches with many big old trees along the shoreline.

Mike Dunn

The Roanoke River is not a quiet place, with its abundant wildlife, but it’s a quiet place away from city noise. No manmade sound, besides an occasional motorboat. Absolute natural bliss. This place is special and I hope it never changes.

Victor McManus

The riverbanks are lovely in new green and it’s easy to view birds, especially Bald Eagles and Anhingas daily. I have only two more sections of river to complete my dream of paddling from Weldon to the Albemarle Sound on the mighty Roanoke.

Ginger Travis

Paddling the Roanoke during the day is special, but being on a platform in the swamp after dark is magical. You can sit and appreciate the change in soundscape as the day shift takes refuge and the night shift comes on duty.
